Seven (7)
Whereas the number 8 is seen as lucky in Asian cultures, the number 7 has lucky connotations in Western cultures. But why? And is it a lucky number in roulette? (I think you know our answer to that one!)
7 is also a lucky number in China, especially for relationships. It’s just not as lucky as 8, which sounds like “fortune” in Cantonese. That’s why the Petronas Towers in Malaysia each have 88 floors. And it’s also the reason that the company behind 888 roulette has launched a new casino called – you guessed it – 777.
Anyway, back to seven. It really is a magic number. Think about it- there are 7 days of the week, 7 colours of the rainbow, 7 notes on a musical scale, the planet has seven seas and 7 continents. There are 7 ages of man according to Shakespeare and the phases of the Moon last seven days, with 4 × 7 = 28 days in every month. It’s also a prime (the one before number eleven).
Snow White ran off with 7 dwarves, in ancient Egypt, guess how many paths to heaven there were? Yep – 7 plus there were 7 heavenly cows. The Egyptian Osiris chaperoned his father through 7 halls of the Underworld.
According to Hippocratic tradition, illnesses of the body follow 7, with serious conditions lasting 7, 14, or 21 days. Sinbad the Sailor went on 7 voyages. And James Bond? He’s 007. 006 and 008 didn’t have the same luck at the roulette or the baccarat table and never got the call from Hollywood.
How to Play the Number Seven in Roulette
You can simply place a straight up bet on 7 of course, but you won´t get much table coverage doing that (although you could just play the Makarov System– flat bet 7 and hope it comes in within 34 spins.)
In European Roulette, Red 7 sits between black 28 and 29. And on an American Roulette wheel, Red Seven sits between black 11 and 20, so on both of these variants you can cover it with a red, odd or low even money bet.
You can also cover it with the other inside bets such as a split bet, corner bet, 6-line, or street bet of course. It comes in the first dozens and the first column if you are looking for a 2:1 payout.
You can also cover it on a 007 bet (of course!) and it is covered by the Neighbours of Zero bet.
Why is Seven Considered Lucky?
It is interesting to speculate on why “Lucky Seven” comes up so much in modern life and throughout history. Why is that? It’s a prime number of course, but then so is 13. Many people seem to have an emotional attachment to the number. Some even think of the number 14 as lucky, it being double 7. Plus 21, 28 and 35 being multiples of “Lucky 7”.
Well, 7 has many religious and spiritual connections through history. There are the 7 deadly sins (although that doesn´t sound too lucky), the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the Seven Days of Creation, in Buddhism, Buddha walked 7 steps when he was born.- the list goes on.
7 also pops up all the time in nature and in our culture- so we have 7 days of the week, (why 7?), 7 seas, etc. Also, this may have something to do with craps, as when you roll 2 six-sided dice, the number 7 has a 6 in 36 (or 1/6) probability of being rolled which is the highest of any number.
The 7 colours of the rainbow are blue, red, yellow, green, orange, violet and purple.
Then in music you have Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sol, La, and Ti.
Other Interesting Facts About 7
Every Boeing aircraft is named with a 3-digit number beginning and ending in 7. Will they go back to 707 once they have used 797? I guess they could call their next plane 808- that would sell well in China (someone at that company was a real visionary when they came up with that naming practice!)
We also have Seven Heavens, there were 7 Kings of Rome, as well as Seven Emperors and Seven Hills.
There were also 7 Sages of Greece and 7 was considered to be a God number in ancient Egypt. 7 was very popular in the Egyptian Empire (maybe that´s why we see so many Cleopatra themed slots and casinos around. Check them out at Virgin Casino.)
In the Harry Potter novels by J.K. Rowling, seven is the most powerfully magical number. In the Game of Thrones epic (check out our Game of Thrones free slot by the way).
7 is also the number of celestial objects that you can see with the naked eye from Earth – the Sun, the Moon and Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn.
So Is the Number Seven Lucky in Roulette?
You know the answer! You have the same probability betting on seven as you would with any other number on the wheel, including 13 and 8. That’s the scientific answer, but then luck hasn´t got much to do with science, has it?
